Charles King Mallory IV (since 2007)
Charles Mallory has repositioned the Aspen Institute Germany in line with its original mission of providing a global and non-partisan platform for leaders from the fields of business, science and the arts to discuss values-based solutions to the problems facing modern society. The open dialog on values and ideals helps to build leadership qualities, bridging the gap between different points of view, experiences and cultural backgrounds.
The situation of Aspen Germany has changed due to the relocation of the German government and Bundestag to Berlin and the disastrous financial situation faced by the state of Berlin.
Until 2004, the state of Berlin provided Aspen Germany with annual funding of approximately 500,000 euros. The loss of this financial support has resulted in considerable limitations to the organization’s activities.
For this reason, Mallory has significantly increased the number of exclusive, non-public events while maintaining the format of the public programs.
In the 36 years since its founding, the Aspen Institute Germany has grown into a renowned institution. The institute owes its success to public and private support, both in terms of funding and of active participation in the organization’s work.
